Join us for our Funder Hui Learning Circle on the topic of Environmental Justice and Thriving Communities featuring Resources Legacy Fund.

Program Summary: Maka will share public funding opportunities that RLF is promoting in Hawai‘i to ensure that our local nonprofit and community organizations benefit. It’s no secret that public funding overwhelmingly favors large, well-resourced organizations that have the staff and resources to persevere through cumbersome federal grant requirements. RLF is part of a collaboration helping to administer the U.S. EPA Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program, which promises to be a critical source of funding for organizations to improve climate resilience, disaster preparedness, food access, water quality, and much more. RLF is also launching a program in Hawai‘i called EJ Ready, that it has successfully piloted in Los Angeles, CA. Through the EJ Ready program, RLF connects community-based organizations with technical assistance to help them identify, access, and manage public funding.

Speaker Bio: Maka Gibson (she/her) is a new Program Officer at Resources Legacy Fund (RLF), where she develops and implements strategies and projects for RLF’s Hawai‘i Environmental Equity and Justice programs. Prior to joining RLF, she was a Program Officer for the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington where she co-designed and implemented equitable grant programs and cultivated trusted relationships with community-based organizations and leaders. She facilitated collaboration between grantees and regional funders and private donors to yield greater impact and cross-sector partnerships. Maka was born and raised on O’ahu and returned in 2023 to advance this important work at home.

Please join us to hear from Resources Legacy Fund, and learn more about these upcoming opportunities! All virtual Funder Hui Learning Circles are recorded and posted to our website following the events. (www.funderhui.org/past-events)
